A Loaf Of Bread...

Weight: 208.8 Down 20.1!

According to Paul at the gym this morning, 5 pounds of fat is about the size of a loaf of bread.

Ever since I learned this little tid bit I have been a little bit obsessive about it... i.e. standing in front of the mirror trying to figure out where the 8(!) loaves I am still losing are located... staring at the loaves in the grocery store..... I just don't see it. 5 loaves maybe. MAX!

Just goes to show how out of sync my mind is with the reality of my body.

On top of that obsession, I have convinced myself that it is a good idea to wear a weighted vest. Got started with 20 pounds loaded into it, since that is about how much I've lost so far. Holy MOLY! It is heavy. Heavy heavy HEAVY! The first question I've been pondering is "How in the world did I live for so long toting that much more on my body?" With the obvious second question - "How great am I going to feel when I get rid of twice that much?!?!?!"

Answer: AWESOME! TERRIFIC! and FANTASTIC!

Anyhow, the vest lasted for about 2 hours... my body hurt in the joints, going down stairs was HARD, and I was just downright cranky (sorry Dave!). I had to take it off to regain my sanity!

I highly recommend trying a weight vest if you're in weight loss mode. It gives a real sense of where you're at in the process. Plus you burn a ton more calories just going through the day. Much more fun than stuffing loaves of bread under your clothes!

That's a great mental picture w/ the bread. I use the fact that a gallon of milk weighs 5 lbs. The thought of all that wt just hanging around is annoying, not to mention unnecessary! You are on the right track here Holly, and your mindset is going to play a huge part of your day-to-day. Can't wait till Baby Brown is born and I can join your quest...for now, I will vow to increase my exercise while pregnant - I have def been slacking. Not eating for two yet, but laying on the couch and napping for two! :) Keep up the good work lady!! Love ya, Shana

Hey! Thanks!
You know I put on most of this excess through pregnancy, and I had a very lazy pregnancy. (Zero exercise until I walked at the very end to get the baby OUT... pop tarts and frosted mini wheats were the staples of my diet, along with REGULAR Coke...YIKES!)
It is very difficult to keep up your energy and eat right when you're tired and starving all the time. Then throw in the fact that vegetables are repulsive to you and heck here comes 50 pounds!
So really do whatever you can to keep moving - and remember that basically you have a weight vest on in the form of a baby. So reset your expectations. Maybe it was running before, and now it's just a nice long walk. That kind of thing.
Oh and another thing - recruit your help. Your mom I'm sure wants you to eat great, so ask her to help stock your fridge with cut veggies, or to fold laundry so you can go for that walk. Whatever it is you need. Same goes for Chris. It takes a village to raise a child and the raising starts now!!!
